Dark Theme

“Well …” Ren Zhouyuan said, “there is a secret that Dad didn’t tell uncle, and uncle now thinks that Dad has lied to him.”

An An only understood half of it, but he also made a facial expression as if he’d understood. He used his small hands and touched Ren Zhouyuan’s face, and looked serious, “Dad had told me that lying is not good, so Dad has to say sorry to uncle.”

Ren Zhouyuan stood in front of the door of the studying room while thinking of what An An had just said, he sighed and knocked on the door. When he entered, he bent over and said, “I’m sorry!”

Leonid was stunned by his action. Initially, his face was still tightened, and now it had loosened a lot. When he saw Ren Zhouyuan keeping his head down by the door, he couldn’t act distant anymore. He snorted lightly and told Ren Zhouyuan to enter.

Ren Zhouyuan watched his expression carefully. When he saw that Leonid wasn’t as angry as he first returned home, he took a sigh of relief. However, soon after he looked easier, Leonid found out and the two’s gazes met each other. When they did, Ren Zhouyuan was very embarrassed and he started scratching his head, and he could only utter a smile.

Ren Zhouyuan knew that being honest would be the only way out. After organizing it a bit in his head, he started to tell Leonid what was happening from the beginning, including his identity as “An Yi” and the matter of manuscript. The only detail that was left deliberately was the fact that he’d signed up for the archaeological team.

“This is what had happened, more or less.” Ren Zhouyuan rubbed his nose before continuing, “but, I also knew about it not long after you’ve said it. Before, my friend Fan Wenfeng had told me briefly about the manuscript, but I didn’t know who had asked for it, so…”

Ren Zhouyuan found it increasingly hard to continue, and Leonid had obviously thought about it as well. If he had let Ren Zhouyuan know at the beginning that it’s Vichy who had asked him for the manuscript, given the character of Ren Zhouyuan, he might escape even more quickly, and there was naturally no way for them to ask this “An Yi” to write for them.

When Leonid thought about the person that he’d met on the thank-you party and the “good friend” that was often mentioned by Ren Zhouyuan, he asked somewhat unhappily, “how many people know about this identity of yours?”

When hearing his serious tone, Ren Zhouyuan couldn’t help but burst into laughter. He spread his hand, “this pen name of mine isn’t a big deal at all. In this field, as long as you’re specialized in an area, and when you’ve suggested a new and interesting point, then the others would quote your name when they’re doing researches, and that could make you famous naturally.” He thought for a while, “before, only Fan Wenfeng knew that I’m the real person of ‘An Yi’, but I’ve heard from Gu Jie today that perhaps the people whom I was working with all knew. Also, Fan Wenfeng’s company was probably aware as well, and you’re the one who’s left.”

Leonid was not focusing on the same point as Ren Zhouyuan – Ren Zhouyuan thought that the reason why Leonid was angry was because he hadn’t been told the truth, and a lot of time was wasted.

In fact, Leonid was just being jealous.

In his mind, he, Ren Zhouyuan and An An are a family. He couldn’t accept that he, as a family member, happened to know the least, and that Fan Wenfeng who was always mentioned happened to always get the first-hand information of Ren Zhouyuan.

Leonid looked at the guy who’s smiling in front of him and sighed helplessly. He thought that the only way to change Ren Zhouyuan’s mind would be telling him honestly how he thought.

“I hope that you can have this awareness.” Leonid said.

“Huh?” Ren Zhouyuan was puzzled.

“We are a family,” Leonid said, “I don’t know what you think of me, but from the moment you stepped into this door, we are one. Whether it’s you or An An, I will never let go.”

Ren Zhouyuan was shocked. He did not expect Leonid to think of this aspect. However, his facial expression stayed the same and he listened to Leonid continue.

“So, I hope that you can slowly change your mind, treat me as a family member and as An An’s father, also your other half. We have to be totally honest as a family, this is the most basic thing. It doesn’t mean that you can’t keep little secrets, but I want you to first think of me in case anything happens. And when you encounter any difficulties, I want you to rely on me first.”

Ren Zhouyuan felt that he seemed to understand what Leonid was trying to say, yet it was still not 100% clear to him. He lowered his head and closed his eyes. After a silent moment, he opened his eyes again, and the dark shadow deep in his eyes seemed to have faded away.

“About 4 years ago, I joined an archaeological team with An An…”

Ren Zhouyuan slowly awakened the memories deep in his memory. For some matters, he had once thought that it’d be extremely difficult to start telling, yet once he started, he found out that it’s actually not that difficult at all.

For a long while, there was only the voice of Ren Zhouyuan left in the study room. When he finished the last sentence, the room had turned into complete silence.

Ren Zhouyuan looked down at a certain point on the desktop, his mind was almost blank. He didn’t know whether it was appropriate to say these words or not, but with the encouragement of Leonid, he took the courage to start telling Leonid everything.

He closed his eyes and pursed his lips, and he dared not look at Leonid’s eyes. For a moment, he even felt that he had stripped off his clothes and become naked, but just when he was feeling helpless, there was suddenly a warm air surrounding him, and when he realized it, he was already in Leonid’s arms.
