My Glasses
Chapter 171 – Glasses boy and Lisse start moving
I think we’ve finished talking about what we needed to. Other things can be left for later.
“Ah, and Eil.” Lisse suddenly said just when I was about to start walking, “How many Gifts do you have?”
“… I think it’s kinda hard to talk about that.” I replied.
One shouldn’t ask others about their Gifts. That’s just common sense and good manners.
I thought Lisse understood this much, but now I have no choice but to despise her.
“What’s up with that glare?” She asked.
Lisse has always been easy to despise though, so not much changed.
“Look, I just can’t leave that be. I watched your fight with Zett.” Lisse told me.
… Right.
******
I was hoping that Lisse would have somehow forgotten about it, or would decide to just leave that be and not ask anything.
But it seems like neither of those situations is possible at this point.
After all, she asked it very directly.
There’s no way I can mislead her or pretend I misheard her, and we’re too close to one another, so I cannot escape either.
… And well, even if I did escape, that wouldn’t help much, since we’ll probably meet each other again in the future.
“As far as I know, you have four Gifts, Eil… That’s just way too many. There has never been a case in history of a person with this many Gifts, right?” Lisse said.
Yeah, I guess this is not the kind of thing that she is okay with simply being aware of, but not probing any further. It’s just way too much of an outrageous situation.
Four Gifts… Full Impact; Anomalous Ogre; Sound Bomb; Mist. Those are the four that she has seen.
Though well, as far as Anomalous Ogre goes, she only knows that I was strong enough to throw a table, so it should be possible to argue that it’s simply Physical Reinforcement.
Florentine’s Anomalous Ogre is quite rare, and also seems to be stronger than most other Gifts of its type, so it would be even more troublesome if I revealed that.
… Yeah, I guess even I would be interested if I were the one to see that fight.
If someone in my group was able to use multiple Gifts, I would inevitably start secretly paying attention to them, even if I didn’t ask them directly.
It’s just scary to not know much about this kind of thing.
Moreover, I would also prefer to avoid having this person next to me.
So, in this situation, I think it would be no good to not say anything.
It’s Lisse that I’m talking to though, so I’m sure she won’t say anything, regardless.
… But her attitude will show that she’s wary. And then other people around us would notice the change in her behavior.
In other words, it would be safer to give her some information and convince her that I’m not a threat.
Lisse is tight-lipped and very loyal, after all. Even if she only knows a little, she most likely won’t tell anyone about it.
“I would rather not go into the details, but I don’t have multiple Gifts, I just have a somewhat unusual magician-type Gift.
“Specifically, I can reproduce a limited number of things.” I told her.
That was not a lie.
After all, the glasses were created with materialization magic, so I am a magician.
Perhaps I might even be able to use spells like other magicians do if I try practicing it.
“Reproduction… Ah, I see.” Lisse nodded.
There are a lot of details missing, but Lisse is smart, so she surely understood a lot from those words alone.
“Something along the lines of being able to reproduce a Gift once you have seen it, then?” Lisse said.
She really got it, huh?
Well, I guess this kind of ability is somewhat famous.
That said, I did some research on this, and from what I have gathered, Glasses is able to reproduce way more Gifts than other reproduction-type Gifts can, so it would quite troublesome to let people know the full details of this Gift.
Also, I think the exact way that ‘once you have seen it’ works for Glasses is different.
I just need to see a person who has Gift, that I know of, while it is in use, rather than needing to see the Gift itself.
Moreover, Forced Information Disclosure allows me to both record Gifts that I don’t know about and Gifts of Demon Beasts.
… Honestly, this Gift is pretty gross. It’s really way too much for me to handle.
Which is why I didn’t want to tell anybody about it for the rest of my life, but I had no choice here.
And well, Lisse was one of the better people who could have heard of it.
If it was Chace or Florentine, this would be much riskier… Goodness, that would be terrifying. I don’t want to even think about it.
Telling Cherry about it wouldn’t be that bad either, but she plans on becoming a proper assassin in the future… As in, someone who works directly for the country.
If a royal decided to ask her about it, she might have no choice but to reveal the details of my Gift, so… She too is also kinda dangerous.
… Coming to think of it, “What do you plan on doing in the future, Lisse?” I asked her.
“Huh? What’s up with that all of a sudden?” She asked back.
I’m just wondering if she’s planning on working for the country in the future… If she does, then she will also be a fairly dangerous person to me.
“You never had any interest in me so far, but you’ve now suddenly started to wonder what I am planning on doing in the future?” Lisse asked me.
“Yeah, it was pretty sudden.” I nodded.
Lisse glared hard at me, “You’re not the kind of person to ask this kind of thing directly.”
Yeah, I agree that this is not like me.
“Well, it’s about you, after all, so I guess I shouldn’t care. You’re way too troublesome and not the kind of woman I should pay any attention to.” I commented.
“I’m gonna knock you down.” She stated.
I wouldn’t like that.
******
“Maybe a spy.” Lisse commented.
This isn’t the kind of thing you can just ask anyone, to be honest.
And even if one were to ask, they might not get a straight answer.
But well, we were talking as we walked around while slowly heading towards the craftsmen’s district. We were also looking at the food stalls in the main street in the meanwhile.
Though this place really was way too crowded right now.
I was almost stabbed nine times already.
And that doesn’t really matter, but eleven people tried touching Lisse’s butt, though she dodged them all, or knocked them down… Oh, that’s the twelfth.
It seems like many of the people here are already drunk.
I don’t know if it’s because there are way too many people here now, but it seems like the number of people attempting to commit some sort of crime has gone far above what I’d expect of this lawless country.
In fact, twenty-six people have tried stroking me so far… I want them to stop doing that, because this is reminding me of a certain fair-skinned woman who fondled me.
But well, just like that, we slowly moved forward.
I want to grab my knife today.
Old man Tatsunami said that he wasn’t sure if he would be able to finish it before the festival, but I should check it at the very least.
Lisse said she didn’t have anything in particular to do, so she came with me.
Well, we also haven’t finished talking, so that was useful for me.
“I think I’ll try mixing myself up with adventurers and run errands for a country that has a strong Demon-Beast-hunting scene. My Gift suits this kind of thing well.” Lisse told me.
Right, Shadow Hunter is a Gift that is very powerful against Demon Beasts, so it’s suitable for adventurers. My older sister is very strong because of that too.
“What about you, Eil?” Lisse asked me.
“Once I finish my training, I plan on going back to my hometown and working as a hunter.” I replied honestly.
“That’s a shame. Even though you have so much power… Don’t you want to do something that can help more people?” Lisse asked next.
Well… It’s not that I’m against it, but I also don’t feel like it.
“I don’t want to stand out. I want to live quietly in the shades.” I replied.
“… I guess you’re suited to being an assassin, huh?
“Truly a shame that this profession is basically out of work these days.” Lisse commented.
Not really. Even if there was assassin work available, I would rather not become a murderer.
