My Glasses Will Be Able to Conquer the Whole World, I Suppose

Chapter 230 – Glasses Boy Is Entrusted With the Role of Vice-Leader

“… So, it’s called the Necromancer, Samongor, right?”

After Evanesque left and we started discussing the task, Geodine knew about the Zombie Legion.

The Necromancer, Samongor.

…I’ve never heard of it. Never even heard the name.

“Huh? You guys don’t know?”

There are eight of us in the monster hunting team classroom right now.

To everyone’s surprise, only one person knew about it.

“I thought it was pretty famous. You don’t know? …Ah, I see…”

Seeing everyone’s puzzled expressions, Geodine made a grimace.

… I think I can guess how things will go from here.

“Um… to put it simply, it’s a summoner that calls zombies. That’s the kind of monster it is.”

Calls zombies.

…Oh, I see.

“So, that’s why it’s called a legion.”

Lisse seemed to have the same thought as me.

The Necromancer, Samongor, summons zombies.

It must summon a large number of zombies, hence the legion.

“Can we eat them?”

Huh.

Should I say ‘As expected of the chef, Belge’, or should I just tell him to stop showing interest? Either way, it was quite a surprising question.

Trawllul might have imagined various scenarios, as he let out a small “ugh” under his breath. Perhaps he was considering whether zombie meat was edible. I’m starting to regret imagining it myself. Even my sister probably wouldn’t touch it. It would be a matter of cutting ties with family if anyone ate it.

“I think it’s best to steer clear of it because it’s undead-related.”

Replied Geodine, although it seemed unnecessary to say.

“Anyway, with a name like ‘ghoul’, it’s probably an undead-type monster, right? In that case, it should be a piece of cake. Especially with Lisse around.”

Harriatan’s words, while not wrong, were a bit too simplistic.

Lisse’s gift, Shadow Hunter Sword, was effective against monsters, particularly undead ones. It had a significant impact, especially against creatures of the undead, due to its affiliation with holy magic.

But it’s not that simple, or rather… it’s a bad move. I think Harriatan’s idea that “Lisse is strong against undead” isn’t a very good mindset.

This is something that should be said.

“Geodine.”

“Hmm?”

“I think you should say what’s on your mind right now.”

“Huh?”

I won’t say it. You should. You probably knew about the Zombie Legion and you’re the next leader, after all. Your earlier grim expression suggests you’ve realized that.

Being a leader comes with a lot of responsibilities, and it’s understandable if you don’t want to take on that role. Especially when the tasks are so life-threatening, it’s scary to be in a position where you’re responsible for others’ lives.

Geodine seemed to want to say something—no, he was suspiciously looking at me as if to say, “Are you trying to push everything onto me? Are you trying to delegate everything to me?” Of course, I pretended not to notice. It’s uncomfortable to be looked at like that. Please don’t look at me. And I couldn’t say anything. Please don’t notice.

“Um, Harriatan, you see, even though Lisse’s gift is effective against undead, I don’t think it’s a good idea to put her on the front lines.”

Yeah, I think so too. I also thought that. …Don’t look at me. I’m not the one you should be talking to.

“Zombies themselves are weak, but there are just so many of them. And if we don’t defeat the Necromancer Sanongor, they’ll just keep increasing. So, regardless of Lisse’s effectiveness, I think it’s best to avoid a direct confrontation.”

Yeah, I think so too. I also thought that… Huh? Did he just smirk?

“I’ll take on the role of leader this time and come up with a strategy.”

Oh no.

“Eil, I’m counting on you as the vice-leader.”

… …

I realized it too late. I didn’t have time to avoid it… No, it’s not over yet!

“If we’re talking about a vice-leader, wouldn’t Lisse be a better choice? She has a track record, after all. It’s too much for a useless zero-point nerd like me to handle.”

I tried to push the responsibility onto someone else, but… Lisse, the one I directed it towards, was grinning at me.

It’s as if she’s saying, “I know what you’re really thinking.”

Actually, I think she’s right.

“The leader’s choice is Eil, not me, right? Well then, let’s give a round of applause to the new leader and vice-leader!”

Applause scattered throughout the room.

It felt like a vote had been taken, and everyone who agreed was clapping their hands. Everyone except me.

I’ve been cornered, or rather, the groundwork has been laid.

Well, there’s no helping it now. Should I just give in?

If I keep protesting, Chace and Harriatan will realize that I’m not really into it. Knowing those two, they’ll probably find it amusing and try to push me into the role of vice-leader. That’s just the kind of people they are.

“I get that you don’t want to, but just do it. And what do you mean by ‘useless’? That’s just not fair.”

“Yeah, exactly. If you can do it, then do it. It’s not like I’m cut out for it anyway.”

…Well, I guess the cat’s out of the bag.

My personality probably made it pretty obvious.

And so, Geodine became the leader, and I, reluctantly, became the vice-leader. We came to the library to devise a strategy for the next task: “Extermination of the Zombie Legion.”

Access to the library is generally restricted, but we got permission from Instructor Evanesque to be here.

Well, I’ve been here a few times to look for books related to my gifts.

The battle has already begun from the moment we decided to fight.

What we’re doing now is preparing for battle.

It all starts with understanding the monsters.

Then we’ll devise a strategy and decide where and how to confront the target.

“You were trying to push the leader role onto me, weren’t you?”

“Haha, that’s ridiculous.”

“But were you?”

“Well, I thought it was going that way, and even if I didn’t do anything, it seemed like it would happen. I just gave it a little nudge.”

After all, Geodine was the only one who knew about the true identity of the zombie legion: the Necromancer, Sanongor.

But when you think about it, maybe it was inevitable that I became the vice-leader.

Since all the prominent members have taken on the leader role, it was only a matter of time before it fell to me.

And besides, I’ve been participating in strategy discussions all along, so it’s not like my responsibilities have changed much.

This time, we’ll just do what we’ve been doing for previous tasks.

“Well, whatever. Since the mock battle, I’ve been wanting to strategize with you again. I’m glad.”

I’m not particularly happy about it, though.

But at least I wasn’t paired up with someone I don’t get along with. In that sense, I’m glad it’s Geodine.

…Alright, that should be enough.

“How many books did you find? I got five.”

“I found four. …Is this enough for now?”

While talking with Geodine, we divided the rows of bookshelves in the library and searched for books on undead creatures.

With the vast number of books available, it was just a matter of searching.

…Unfortunately, there weren’t many books on gifts of that kind. Well, there were some written in unreadable characters, so maybe I just couldn’t read them.

Anyway, with a total of nine books, there’s probably something about the Necromancer, Sanongor, in at least one of them. That should be enough.

“Oh, Eil-kun.”

As the door opened, a familiar voice entered along with a breeze from outside.

It was Cherry. Caroferon was with her.

It seems like they’re also investigating the zombie legion. They must have come to research, just like us.

This was a regular occurrence, happening every time a new task was assigned.
