My Glasses Will Be Able to Conquer the Whole World, I Suppose
Chapter 228 – Glasses Boy’s Self-Training
The one-week rotation duty has ended completely, and now lunch is on a rotating basis.
By the way, the instructors are the ones cleaning the tower. There are areas where we’re not allowed to enter.
Today’s meal duty is Cherry and Eorazel.
I don’t really know much about Eorazel, but as long as Cherry is there, it should be fine. Actually, breakfast was okay.
Last time was awful, though…
When Trawllul and Florentine were on duty, the menu was literally just grilled meat…
Well, I don’t mind the menu since I don’t dislike it, but the problem was that it was either raw inside or burnt.
That got me a bit angry, you know. It’s disrespectful to the meat. It’s blasphemy against life.
Did I really think that?
“—Eil. After your self-training, do you want to go fishing?”
While I was having lunch alone in the hall on the first floor, Belge, who was eating with others at a different table, called out to me.
“—Sure, let’s go.”
As we’ve been working on assignments together, I’ve become quite accustomed to Belge, the cook who seemed pushy at first.
I’ve been able to ask him about spices and sauces that I’ve always been curious about, and now we often go fishing in the sea together or gather seafood on the beach or rocks.
Not only was I amazed by the vastness of the sea when I first saw it, but I was also surprised by the deliciousness of the seafood that can be found in it.
It’s definitely different from the river fish I’m used to.
I’ve also learned how to fillet fish and which ones are edible. It seems like there are fish that carry poison, so I need to be careful.
But well, I might not have the opportunity to be by the sea again other than here in the future.
After clearing lunch, it’s time for a little break and self-training.
Since everyone has different abilities and specialties, and what they can or can’t do varies, I’m not entirely sure what everyone is doing.
Lisse, Chace, Harriatan, and Eorazel are in front of the tower, swinging swords and spears, engaged in relentless sparring.
Belge and Trawllul went into the depths of the forest together, doing something. I haven’t asked what they’re up to.
Cherry, Geodine, and Caroferon, the three magicians, seem to have been given magic-related tasks by Instructor Evanesque, and they’re working on them.
I’m not sure what Hydra, Shuren, and Marion are up to.
The two women often seem to go to Krozheit, but Shuren seems to be doing something else.
And Florentine and I often train together by the seaside.
This is also quite satisfying and informative.
Seeing one example is often more effective than a thousand words.
But well, it seems like he won’t come to us today.
“—Oh, got one!”
Standing on the rocky shore, Florentine relentlessly throws stones towards the fish shadows in the sea.
This is her self-training.
So far, it’s more about whether she hits one out of ten throws.
However, compared to when she first started, her accuracy has improved quite a bit. It seems like she’s steadily improving little by little.
“—Ah, got one here too.”
And I, next to her but facing a different direction, blindfolded, am continuously shooting arrows.
I’m also aiming for fish.
I’ve tied a thin rope to the arrows to reduce air resistance, making them makeshift harpoons.
This is to ensure that I can retrieve them whether they hit the fish or not.
Also, I’ve attached slightly elongated arrowheads to minimize the chance of causing significant wounds to the fish.
If there’s any resistance when pulling the rope, it means the arrow has pierced the fish. The vitality of the struggling fish is transmitted through the rope.
“Why does yours hit more often than mine…”
Florentine often says something like that in a voice that’s hard to tell whether she’s surprised or annoyed, but I think it’s mutual.
Just as she learned the stone-throwing attack method for hunting meat, I learned this from the assassins’ village.
Rather, the prey underwater is hardly visible from here.
Even if you aim with the naked eye from the land, I think it’s less likely to hit. Fish move quickly, after all.
Sensing their presence, quietly aiming, and taking them down before they realize they’re being targeted.
This is almost the same as hunting in the forest—except here, we don’t rely on vision.
Well, in the forest, there are many obstacles. Without good visibility, hunting in the forest is impossible.
Moreover, recently, I’ve learned to determine the size of the fish, where the arrow hit, and the type of fish I’ve been taught, even without looking.
The arrow that returned to my hand often has a dark sea bream pierced—presumably. I think it pierced through the side, near the gills, right next to the eye. This fish is amazing. It’s big.
I remove the arrow while still blindfolded and toss the wriggling fish into the bucket I brought. This makes it the fourth one today.
“Why can’t I do that without looking…”
“You’ll be able to do it eventually, won’t you?”
Florentine’s training includes not only throwing but also sensing the presence of living beings. Prey underwater is indeed difficult to chase with just vision.
Speaking of vision, I’ve been relying solely on my glasses recently and it’s been unsettling.
Relying too much on convenient tools will definitely deteriorate one’s skills as a hunter.
I think the time spent training with the bow without relying on vision, taking it slow and steady, is quite valuable.
“I don’t think we can do it. It’s not something ordinary people can do… Well, that’s what I want to say, but…”
I can’t say it, right?
I hit one or two out of five arrows, but Instructor Yorgo hit all ten arrows he released. With a blindfold on, of course.
I think it’s okay to include my unfamiliar bow in that.
And I showed the same thing with Florentine’s stone throwing.
He’s an incredible person. Truly remarkable.
I’d really like him to explain various things logically, but when I was asked, “Why can’t you do it?” I couldn’t say anything.
“The genius is amazing.”
“That’s right… Well, I think the same of him.”
Haha, no way.
If I’m a genius, then everyone in the world is a genius, and my mentor is even more amazing than me.
